I'm dreaming of a white christmas.....

It has been a delightfully storm filled last few days! The clouds dropped 8 inches of snow on us last night and we are in the middle of yet another lovely snowstorm they say will give us 4-8 inches more on top of what we already have!! Oh how happy we are over here! Erik and I stayed up until 1:00 in the morning watching the snow fall last night. It is a precious commodity here in the pacific northwest after all!

We made a lovely fire that looked altogether swallowed up in our oversized fire box. Where is a yule log when you need one??? Boomer is on guard for anything or anyone that is brave enough to venture forth in the snowy beyond.

As you can see, only Erik ventured forth. But Boomer has patience, he will wait there forever if he has to. He's noble like that.

This morning the kids woke up with snowflakes in their eyes, and were up and dressed and frolicking in the snow by 8:00am. After slipping and sliding, snow angles and snowforts, wild rompus snowball fights and other altogether silly nonsense in the snow, they created this masterpiece....

Frosty the snowman, chilling in a "cold tub" having himself a grand old time! After all the excitement, everyone came inside to warm up by the fire and drink coffee/hot chocolate and eat hot spiced apple muffins. Yum! Snow days are simple enjoyments. And we get to do it all over again tomorrow!

A Quote...

"To plow, one must concentrate all his attention on the line being plowed. Being distracted, just a little, to say nothing of looking back, may lead the plower off the straight line. To follow the Savior, we must forget everything else and press straight ahead for the kingdom of God."

I do not know who wrote this. I copied it onto a scrap piece of printer paper once, many years ago, and it has sat in the top drawer of my buffet all this time. Every so often, when I would clean it out I would find it there, read it and put it back. This morning, as I was picking up my living room I grabbed a crumpled piece of paper off the top of the buffet, ready to trash it, as anyone who knows my cleaning mantra will attest. It was this quote. One of my rugrats had rummaged thru the drawer looking for something, smashed the paper in their hurry and left it out on the top of the buffet. The boogers. Someday they will all clean up without having to be
told.

Anyways, I sat here, trying to figure out why I like this quote so much. I thought, we are God's focus. His thoughts are on us continually. We screw up constantly, yet He is just there, waiting for us to remember Him. Waiting for us to stop trying to do everything ourselves. Waiting for us to love Him. He wants our focus to be Him. For us to love Him so much that everything else gets forgotten. We can't change ourselves. Only God can change us. We can't even really love Him. Remember, we love Him with the love with which He loved us? I can't remember what verse that was. But we can do something. We can make a choice. We can get distracted by all our problems or what have you, and all we have to do is make a choice to turn back to the line. Once we do that, all the problems don't matter, then He is what matters. That's what He is waiting for.

Chubby Charlie?

Last week we noticed a very plump raccoon, slowly waddling across our street in the middle of the morning in broad daylight! We were astonished. All of us had thought raccoons only came out in the dark of night to root in trash and terrorize neighbourhood cats while looking so darn cute. We passed it off to just an odd occurance and went on our merry little lives.
A couple of days later, Erik was in his office, hard at work, I was vaccuming in the living room, and as it had been an unusually warm fall day the frech doors were open. Suddenly, I am frightened half out of my wits, by Erik, appearing at my side out of nowhere and hollering my name above the roar of our bargain vaccum cleaner. It appears Sasha had been frolicking in the backyard and heard a noise. She starting barking her little tiny barks, and Erik came out to investigate. She was standing by the fence, yipping her little head off in excitement. As Erik glanced around to see what could possible be causing this enthusiastic barking, he saw one little furry hand reach up to the top of the fence and then another furry hand appeared as well. Then a furry raccoon head emerged and stared right at him. The sight of a furry raccoon popping up on our fence excited Sasha even further and the barking intinsified. As she barked, the head pointed down to look at her. Erik hollered for me, hoping the plump coon was not going to go after our 8 lb doggie to plump himself even further. He asked the coon what it was doing, however, the coon snubbed him and didn't respond. He merely held on till his little hands started to shake from the effort of holding up his gargantuan body and he could hold on no more and simply fell to the ground.
I ran to the deck to get a look, alas, he was gone. But, wait! Suddenly there he was, in the middle of the day, sauntering across the neighbours yard. We hollered and pointed and looked. He heard us and stopped and came closer to get a view of us wierd humans, then wandered into a bunch of trees.
We thought he must be rabid, or have distemper, he was not afraid of us at all. We decided to call the department of fish and wildlife and report him. We named him Chubby Charlie.
A couple days passed, then, as Erik pulled into the driveway after a late night store run he saw him! Chubby Charlie was in our front yard by our gate. Erik spoke to him and Charlie waddled to our 6 ft gate, climbed to the top, hiosted his front end over and got stuck. He was too fat, his back legs simply dangled there, bicycling furiously for several minutes until he found the momentum to hurl himself over, landing with a loud plop on the other side. That night, while walking back from his office Erik saw some movement in the dark. he shined his flashlight and low and behold, Chubby Charlie was a foot away from him in the grass. Erik asked him where he was going, and Chubby Charlie sat and looked at him and scrached his belly. Then, off he waddled into the night. Hoisting, dangling, bicycling furiously, and plopping over the neighbours fence into the gravel below. Poor Charlie! This was getting quite interresting!
The next day Erik called me while he was out. He had recieved a call from the dept of fish and wildlife. They asked him some questions about Chubby Charlie and said.... Oh yeah! That's Norman!! He lives here, on our block in our neighbourhood, he has been living here for 3 years! They said, every few months they recieve a call about him, and he has never hurt anyones pets and is not afraid of people. He has made such a name for himself the dept of fish and wildlife named him! He doesn't have rabies or distemper, and people feed him, hence his non toned physique. So, mystery solved, life goes on, with a little more love for Norman. I will try to snap a picture of him for your viewing pleasure.

Midnight at the Coryell's

Well, here it is, the middle of the night now. I was sitting here, creating this, my very first blog, because of the encouragement of Sarah whom I hope is sleeping right now unlike us. As I sat here, desperately trying to decide if peuce was a better background colour than sea moss, I had several inturruptions to distract me from the mind boggling array of fonts and background choices that await me. First my dear husband called my attention away to show me how terrible he is at wii golfing. I gave due sympathy and carried on. Then I was called away to look at how fun wii boxing is and laugh at his pasty white cartoon self who strangly resembles Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. As the blog set up resumed I suddenly had a little boy next to me with an absolutely giddy expression of excitement. What is he doing out of bed I wondered? We sent him to bed hours ago! "Look Mom! Check out what I did!!!" he says and shoves a large peice of paper under my nose. "It's for my report on armadillos!" I look and the most amazing picture of an armadillo was drawn in pencil, painstakingly getting every last detail. That kid has some serious artistic talent. I love moments like this and am so thankful we can homeschool these rugrats. I will let him sleep in in the morning.
